Rolling the perfect joint is not just a skill, it’s an art. Whether you’re a seasoned smoker or just starting out, rolling a joint requires precision, patience, and a bit of creativity.
In this blog, we delve deeper into this art and share some useful tips to improve your skills. From choosing the right materials to perfecting your rolling technique, we have everything you need to roll the perfect joint and enjoy a flavorful and satisfying smoking experience.
What do you need for your joint?
Before you start rolling your joint, it’s helpful to have the right materials at hand. These include:
- Your favorite weed
- Cigarettes or loose tobacco
- Rolling papers (choose long papers)
- Tips or filters
- A lighter
- Optionally: a grinder and/or a joint roller
Opt for high-quality rolling papers, preferably made from hemp or unbleached paper. This not only provides a cleaner smoking experience but also ensures the flavor is as optimal as possible.
Consider investing in a good grinder to evenly grind your cannabis. A tip strengthens your joint and prevents cannabis from falling out.
Grind your cannabis evenly
Evenly ground cannabis ensures uniform burning and a smooth smoking experience. You can crumble your weed by hand, but this takes time and leaves you with sticky fingers, which does not help with rolling. Use a grinder to finely grind your cannabis until it resembles dried herbs.
Be careful not to use too much force, as you risk pulverizing the cannabis, which can make smoking more difficult. The idea is to break the buds into smaller particles.
The choice is yours: fill your joint with pure cannabis or mix in some tobacco. If you want a mix, take the tobacco out of the cigarette and blend it with your weed. You can also opt for a herbal mixture. Consider, for example, chamomile, lavender, sage, or mint.
Let’s roll!
Now comes the fun part: rolling your joint. Start by placing a tip at one end of your rolling paper. This can be a pre-made tip or one you fold yourself.
If you’re folding your own, take a piece of thick paper about 5.5 x 1.7 cm, if you’re using long papers. Fold a sort of accordion in the middle and roll the tip around it. By folding an ‘accordion’ in the middle, you prevent weed from falling out or your tip getting clogged during smoking. Plus, you get to enjoy every last crumb of your weed.
Then evenly distribute your ground cannabis over the rolling paper.
Shape your perfect joint
Once you have evenly distributed the cannabis, it’s time to shape your joint. Use your thumbs and forefingers to roll the cannabis between the paper into a cylindrical shape.
Start at the tip and slowly work your way to the other end. Once you are satisfied with the shape, roll the rolling paper tightly around the cannabis and lick the adhesive strip to seal the joint. Be careful not to roll it too tightly as this can make it hard to smoke. Too loose isn’t good either, as you run the risk of the joint burning unevenly or too quickly. So, it takes some practice.
How your perfect joint looks is, of course, entirely up to your taste. Some roll them short and thin, others make a huge, fat joint. It’s your party!
Finishing touch of your perfect joint
Your joint is rolled. Now it’s time for the finishing touch. To get an even burn, it is good to gently press down the weed from the open end, for which you can use, for example, a pen.
If some crumbs fell out during rolling, you can add them back in. Tap your joint vertically, with the tip down, on a clean and flat surface. Now seal the open end by twisting the rolling paper into a kind of wick. This prevents weed from falling out if you want to store your joint for a while. When you’re ready to smoke, simply light the twisted end.
Enjoy your masterpiece
Now that you’ve rolled the perfect joint, it’s time to relax and enjoy your masterpiece. Take a comfortable chair, play your favorite music, and leave the stress of the day behind as you enjoy a flavorful and satisfying smoking experience.
